Types of translation

Normal translation

Normal translation is the general written translation of any text into Spanish (direct translation), from Spanish as the source language into another target language (reverse translation) or between other source and target languages without the use of Spanish.

Technical translation

Technical translations cover all types of documents or texts with a specific language. The level of technical terms may involve a greater volume of work, which may imply a higher fee for difficulty and volume, as they require more time and the use of translators specialised in each subject (such as engineering, medicine, etc.).

Sworn translation

Sworn translation is the official translation of texts for legal purposes, that means the text translated and certified by the translator has the same legal effectiveness as the original.

Frequently asked questions about translation

Sworn translation is the official translation of texts for legal purposes, i.e. so that the text translated and certified by the translator has the same legal effectiveness as the original. This usually involves contracts, court documents (especially for letters rogatory, also known as judicial assistance, which can include complete writs of summons, letters rogatory, resolutions, judgments, etc.), qualifications and certificates of studies, birth, death and marriage certificates, as well as any document that must be certified as having full legal effectiveness for the purposes of legal guarantee.

The sworn interpreter is empowered to provide a face-to-face interpretation, i.e. an oral translation, which may be required in court proceedings when a declarant does not speak or have sufficient command of the Spanish language, or in other administrative procedures, such as weddings, declarations before the police, notaries, arbitration boards and similar bodies.

Normal translation is for general purposes, while technical translation deals with specialised documents, such as engineering, architecture or medicine.

Sworn translators are authorised to translate public or private documents from a foreign language into any of the official languages of the Kingdom of Spain for which they are authorised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or from Spanish or another co-official language of Spain, if applicable, into the foreign language for which they are authorised, making them officially valid. These translations become valid in administrative and judicial proceedings. Thus, the Sworn Translator-Interpreter certifies that the translation is correct and complete, and takes responsibility for any possible inaccuracies in the document.

Technical translations cover all types of documents or texts with a specific language.
